Amazon’s Fire HD 8 with 32GB of internal storage is discounted to $59 as part of today’s Gold Box deal. This is a great opportunity to snag one if you missed out on Prime Day, which saw the 16GB option going for $49.
Cheap tablets that come recommended are a rarity, but Amazon’s tablets impress for their price — even when they aren’t on sale. This Fire HD 8 won’t compete with the power or app selection of the latest iPad, or be as versatile as the Surface Go, but this device’s screen is decent for the price, and it’s best fit for those enmeshed in Amazon’s offering of services.
Because of their low price, Amazon’s tablets are often recommended for kids, but there’s plenty for adults to enjoy, as well. All of the usual entertainment apps are available, like Hulu, Netflix, Twitch, and of course, Amazon’s own Prime Video, among others. There are games, too, though you won’t find the Google Play Store here and as such, the vast selection of new apps and games is a world that’s shut off to Amazon’s tablets.
There are a few perks to buying an Amazon tablet. First is its expandable storage. Usually a commodity in more expensive tablets, extra storage comes cheap for Fire HD 8 users thanks to its compatibility with the cheap, ubiquitous microSD card. And if you want to dip your toes into the growing world of smart displays, buying one of the company’s Show Mode charging docks essentially turns the Fire HD 8 into a cheap Echo Show.
