It is as if every single day they are doubling their efforts and strategies in sending this spam calls and messages. Sometimes when you are making a call their message would just slide in-front of your screen and since most phones are touch screens today, you would not even know when you have accepted the spam message request.
Before you know what is happening they have wiped off your credit and would keep deducting your cash every periodically for one useless subscription you don’t even know when you made.
Thankfully, phone users are not left without a way out. In this post I am going to show two ways to block away these annoying spam calls from Airtel, MTN, Etisalat, GLO and other network.

How To Block Annoying Spam Calls From Airtel, Mtn, Etisalat And Glo
Following the outcry of users Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), stepped in on to help phone from this irritating disturbance.
They passed a directive ordering all telecommunication service providers in Nigeria, that from July 1, 2016, the network company should activate a “DO NOT DISTURB” (DND) feature that will enable network subscribers to block any unwarranted spam messages or calls.
The operators were mandated to dedicate a common Short Code (2442) which will enable subscribers take informed decisions.
Mr. Tony Ojobo, Director of Public Affairs, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), made it clear in a public statement that the new action by the commission was taken in order to protect subscribers from the nuisance of unsolicited texts, and therefore a direct regulatory response to the yearnings of the subscribers.
This was really an action in the right direction that actually invoked a regulatory provision which had hitherto been overlooked by the operators.
Taking cognizance of the broad range of services which include: Banking/Insurance/ Financial Products, Real Estate, Education, Health, Consumer Goods and Automobiles, Communication/ Broadcasting/ Entertainment/ IT, Tourism and leisure, Sports, Religion(Christianity, Islam, others), the Commission directed the operators to give the necessary instructions and clarifications that will enable subscribers subscribe to a particular service/services /none at all.
How To Activate DND On All Network
To activate full DO NOT DISTURB on MTN, Airtel, Glo, Etisalat and any other Nigerian network SMS STOP to 2442 to stop your line from receiving all bulk SMS, VAS, OTPs and IVR messages.
In fact, a Full DND which is SMS “STOP” to 2442 does not allow the subscriber to receive any unsolicited message from the operators at all.
Partial Block Mode Keywords And Other Commands
If you don’t want to block all the spam calls but some specific categories then subscribers can perform the following keywords based DND commands via SMS to set preferences.
Below are the various options:
“SMS 1” for receiving SMS relating to Banking? Insurance/ Financial products to 2442
“SMS 2” for receiving |SMS relating to real Estate to 2442
“SMS 3” for receiving SMS relating to Education to 2442
“SMS 4” for receiving SMS relating to Health to 2442
“SMS 5” for receiving SMS relating to Consumer goods and Automobiles to 2442”
“SMS 6” for receiving SMS relating to Communication/ Broadcasting Entertainment/IT to 2442
“SMS 7” for receiving SMS relating to Tourism and leisure to 2442
“SMS 8” for receiving SMS relating to Sports to 2442 “SMS 9” for receiving SMS relating to Religion to 2442

How To Deactivate DND On All Network
Well if at any time a subscriber wishes to deactivate all the “Do Not Disturb” and get back to receiving sms OTPs, VAS, verification codes from some websites, job alerts, transaction notifications from your online payment gateways etc, then there is deactivation code that can enable them to do that.
To deactivate Do Not Disturb, text ALLOW (for MTN), OUT (for Airtel), START (for Etisalat), to 2442 to start receiving all bulk SMS, VAS, OTPs and IVR messages.
Using Blacklist Number App To Block Spam
Some network users have also considered using the Blacklist Number app – an app that enables you to block any number from calling or texting you on a regular basis.
Originally, this app was created to blacklist any number that you don’t want to receive calls or text messages from.
